Bruins v Hurricanes

One of my favorite things about the Fall is the start of hockey season. After last years amazing Championship win for the Bruins, it seems everyone has jumped on the B's bandwagon and have been getting into watching the games. The amount of black and yellow gear around New England has seen a substantial increase since last Spring and I am glad to see that the Sox and Patriots have a run for their money with the hearts of New Englanders.

Last night my roommate and I went to the Bruins v Hurricanes game. It was the first regular game of the season that we had both been to and we were really excited to see if they could pull off a win at home after losing to the Canes last week on the road. The B's trailed the entire game until a brief glimmer of hope when Rich Peverley scored in the third period to bring the score to 1-2. After that it was a mess of on ice fights and game ejections which caused the crowd to get restless and the Canes to continuously score to win the game 1-4. I can say that I was getting restless watching how the game was going but I have never been so upset with how the Garden crowd was reacting. They were tossing bottles and garbage from all over onto the ice causing a delay in the game as well as causing more work for the players, refs, and grounds crew. It was pretty pitiful to see how fast a crowd can turn in an arena and I really hope I don't see that type of restlessness at the next game we go to.

I have been fortunate enough to have gone to a few games already this season, which has been pretty amazing. If you ever want to go to a game at the Garden, buy tickets the day of the game for really cheap prices - even if you are up in the nosebleeds you will never have a bad view. You can get them via Ticketmaster or StubHub. Or another great option to purchasing tickets is by purchasing them through Tickets for Charity - you can actually get really great Loge (lower level) seats for a competitive price all while helping a good cause.

Also a few tips for if you are new to the Garden, they will not accept out of state IDs unless you are 25+ so if you are 21-24 and aren't from around here and would like to buy a drink at the concession stand - bring a passport. You can grab a bite to eat before the game along Canal Street at places like Hurricane O'Reilly's, Boston Beer Works, The Fours, or Sports Grille Boston. If you are going to a weeknight game and don't mind a quick 5 minute walk, the cheapest place for food and drinks is over at Sissy K's on Commercial Court behind Faneuil Hall - they have free appetizers during weeknight happy hour and $1.25 Bud Light drafts which really can't be beat. And finally, the MBTA Green Line, Orange Line, and North Shore Commuter Rail all run through North Station which is located in the Garden so plenty of ways to get to and from the game. Enjoy and Go B's!

Alumni Weekend

A few weekends back I attended my annual Alumni Weekend up in Burlington, VT. I don't get up there as much as I would like but I still have a lot of friends who have stuck around after graduation and have settled down with jobs in the area. The weekend is mostly filled with running into old classmates downtown and watching a few of the sporting events, but there really is no set schedule for the weekend.

Although it is a long ride from Boston (usually about 4 hours), the scenes of the mountains are absolutely amazing. My friends and I were a bit early for the "leaf-peeping" but some of the trees had started to change colors already which was pretty neat to see. If you get the time, I would definitely recommend taking a drive up I-89 N sometime during October or November to see the cool views of the mountains, which the highway seems to curve around and through. You will know you have made it to Burlington when you reach a random pair of whale's tails on the side of the road.

Many of my favorite places in Burlington are down on Church Street, which is similar to an outdoors version of Faneuil Hall. The streets are lined with a variety of shops, bars, and museums with street performers scattered along the main stretch. My favorite restaurant is the Vermont Pub and Brewery. The VPB has their own brewed beer on tap and has a lengthy menu of with a huge variety of food from burgers to soups to my favorite, the Shepard's Pie. If you don't have time to sit down and enjoy a meal try Kountry Kart Deli for the best sandwiches to go. The local favorite is the Rise n' Shiner which is a sub roll with eggs, hash browns, cheese, and breakfast meat.

Although this weekend we didn't get to do any factory tours, there are a lot of well-known businesses in the area that give tours of their factories. The Magic Hat Brewery is just a short drive to South Burlington and gives a brewery tour like nothing you've ever seen. Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream also got their start in Vermont and have a tour at their factory along I-89 in Waterbury, VT. Both tours were really personal and are very proud to be based out of Vermont and still making a name for themselves.

I am hoping to make it back up to Vermont this winter and then I can update you on some of the winter activities that the Green Mountain State has to offer.

College Blogger Now In The Real World

Hello All! My name is Theresa and I am a new student at Boston University's Metropolitan College, currently pursuing my Graduate Certificate in Electronic Commerce, Systems, and Technology.
I grew up on the beautiful South Shore of Massachusetts and decided I was ready for a change after high school. So I packed up my things and chose to attend Saint Michael's College in Colchester, VT knowing next to nothing about the freezing cold, environmentally friendly, "hippy" area I was about to spend the next four years of my life in. Although I had amazing four years up North, I decided to move back to Boston after graduation for the next chapter of my life: the dreaded "real world". Thankfully, within a few months of graduation I landed a great job at Boston University working as a Staff Coordinator and have since decided to pursue my Graduate Certificate.
While at school in VT, I worked as a Blogger for Saint Michael's Admissions Office writing about my daily life in order to draw attention to prospective students. I fell off the blogging bandwagon after graduation but am excited to get back into the blogging scene since I like to dabble in all sorts of social media.
